Haven Rose Dukes is a big 5-year-old now and she celebrated big Sunday afternoon with a Hawaiian theme party. There was a bouncy house with a swimming pool that all the little ones enjoyed while the grandparents, great-grandparents, uncles, aunts and friends watched as they were having a good time. I don’t think I have ever seen a little one enjoy her birthday party as much as she did. Lil Waylon Jr. slept right through the biggest part.
Joey and Katelyn McClan-ahan, Shelby DeWitt and JK, all of Brandon, visited Bobby Joe McClanahan and Michelle and other family this weekend.
Jordanna Twilley is visiting Shannon Manzo and Frank and Cris Manzo for a few days .
Ginger Harrison said they had a great weekend. As usual, it was not long enough. They all celebrated niece Lilly Whitaker’s 22nd birthday at her mama Martha Box’s house Sunday. Candy cooked a good meal and a fabulous strawberry cake.
Happy birthday to Chuck Hancock, Nick Traywick and Brent Bowman on the 27th; Louise Gaither the 28th; Ann Fly Kirk and Johnny Jackson on the 29th; and Chad Eskridge on the 30th. May you all have a great day of celebrating your special day.
Martha Box said it was fun to celebrate granddaughter Lilly Whitaker’s birthday at her house Sunday night. Candy Box, her mother, came over and baked a cake while cooking supper. Turned out great and fed the crew. Rissa and her “honey bunch” Steven Jackson and Addie Copper and Lilly came in with a little bitty 6-week-old puppy, a miniature wiener dog. Martha said the poor dog liked her best but also enjoyed being passed from one to another. Ben, Marnie, Phil, Ginger, Jake and Josh were all there.
Martha Box said it was such a great afternoon after a wonderful church visit Sunday. After a great singing of “Nothing but the Blood of Jesus,” Bro. Harris at Tillatoba Baptist Church gave “a spirit led-message of Jesus’ blood saving us from Hell!” noted Martha. She said it touched her heart to always pray that all accept salvation.
There was a great gathering and eating at Willow Springs Assembly of God Saturday evening, said Martha Box, with fish fry foods followed by cake and ice cream. “Well, it smelled and looked so good, but I am on a low-carb, low-fat diet, so I ate a burger with no bread!” she explained, adding, “Trying hard to get my priss back ... LOL, at least good walk back!” Martha, anytime you can’t go to a good eating like that, just call me and I will go in your place.
Tommy and Deborah McCool went to Leland Wednesday afternoon to bring Tommy’s sister, Alice Kellum, home. Tommy's brother-in-law, Jim, has been having more health issues and has been in the hospital in Greenville, although he was supposed to be moving to Ruleville Monday if all went well. Hopefully, they can work with him and improve some of his health problems.
Your writer and David babysat our two grand dogs for Donna Sunday morning. Donna had a leak in her ceiling and had to make a trip to Lowe’s to get the parts to fix it. Coco and Jack met her at the door when she got back. Those two dogs love their keeper.
Recipe for the week: “Tomato Gravy”
Cook bacon in a cast iron skillet and then use the grease to make the gravy. Pour off all of the bacon grease until just the bottom of skillet is covered. Lower heat to medium-low. Sprinkle 3-4 tablespoons of self-rising flour on top and stir well until light brown. When brown, add ½ cup of water and stir well until well combined. Add 1 can of diced tomatoes, salt and pepper. Stir until well combined. Turn heat off and enjoy with some hot buttermilk biscuits.
Thought for the day: I’ve walked the walk and talked the talk. Now, at my age, I’m just gonna sit the sit!
