A big congratulations to Blake Sides and Johnadam Robinson on their marriage Saturday, Sept. 27. I wish you both many years of love and happiness.
Beverly and Walter McBride of Marietta, Georgia, were at homecoming at Tillatoba Baptist Church Sunday. Also there were Rich and Jennifer Ross and Margaret Jean Ross and Erik Bailey.
Martha Box was sick Sunday with rigorous chills. She thought it might have been a bit of food poisoning but said it is now looking more like a “tuff” respiratory virus. She did enjoy a great revival service Friday night at Pope Willow Springs Assembly of God. She said, “Bro. Pooler shared the truth, the Lord’s love, and the Holy Ghost!” Martha, I hope you are feeling a lot better soon!
Allison Dukes, Tommy and Deborah McCool’s granddaughter, and her boyfriend came to visit Saturday from Alabama. She asked her pappaw to make her some of his stew, so Debbie said they made a potful. She ate two big bowls and took a big bowl full back home. Everyone had a great visit. While they were here, Debbie said they found out some great news: “We are going to be great-grandparents in May! She is expecting!” That’s wonderful news, Debbie. You will never be the same.
Waylon and Holly Dukes, along with JR Dukes and Ashlee Julian, went to the Ole Miss-LSU game in Oxford Saturday and had a great time.
Diane Dukes was sick for over a week with diverticulitis. She had taken her two great-granddaughters, Jo Pullen and Haven Rose Dukes, to the movies and you’ve got to have popcorn while watching a movie. But Diane said she will never eat popcorn anymore.
Correction from last week’s birthdays: Bobby Joe McClanahan celebrated the 27th, not the 26th. I was giving him a head start.
Happy birthday to Lynn Hoop Marceleno and Jessie Williams, who celebrated on Oct. 1. Happy birthday to J.L. Crawford and Kathryn Bickerstaff, who celebrate on the 2nd; to Kim Beavers on the 4th; to Laura Moorman, Billy Wayne Anderson and Mitch Anderson on the 5th; to Jason Pettit and Bill Ashmore on the 6th; to Taylor Hames, my sweet great-nephew, on the 7th; and to Ginger Patton and Summer Procella, who celebrate on the 8th. Happy birthday to you all and may all your wishes come true!
Happy anniversary to Ginger and Phil Harrison who celebrate on Oct. 3.
Recipe for the week: Cabbage Fritters
1 head cabbage
1 onion
2 eggs
All-purpose flour
Salt and pepper to taste
Oil for pan frying
Cut or shred cabbage. Add cabbage to a mixing bowl, with diced onions, eggs, flour, salt and pepper. Mix together and set aside. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a little oil, swirling around to coat the whole surface. Grab a tablespoon and scoop up the cabbage batter, dropping about six rounds into the skillet. Use a spatula to gently flatten them out. Let them cook for about a minute on each side, just until they’re golden brown. Serve them up with some sour cream and a sprinkle of cayenne pepper. Enjoy!
Thought for the day: Not all storms come to disrupt your life; some come to clear your path.
