Callie Leann Hoop, 40, of Tillatoba, passed away Friday, March 24, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Yalobusha County. She was born March 9, 1983, in Grenada to Clark and Clara Mae Hendrix Hoop. Callie attended Tillatoba Baptist Church and loved to lend a helping hand at any opportunity. She loved spending time with her children, playing basketball with them, riding four-wheelers and shooting guns. Her kind, sweet spirit will be missed for many years to come. The outpouring of love by the people and church-filled pews said it all. Callie, you were one special lady. RIP, sweet girl. Survivors include her husband, Billy Edwards; daughter, Jenny Edwards; two sons, Chance Welch and Christopher Edwards.
Welcome back to Tillatoba, Kenny Dunning. Kenny moved from Seattle, Washington, last week and is now a happy retired man.
Sonja Mercer and daughter, Samantha Hamilton, came down from Memphis Wednesday evening and drove her mother, Sheryn Goode, to Oxford Thursday morning to have a colonos-copy. They went home Friday. Sheryn’s other daughter, Dana, come down Sunday. They visited, went to the cemetery to put flowers on her dad’s grave and then went to Enid for lunch. Sheryn’s grandson cooked a caramel cake and sent it to her. Last Sunday, she went to Memphis for the her other granddaughter’s baby shower. Sheryn said she was bone tired from all her doings this past week.
Friday night, storms and some tornadoes were all around Mississippi. I don’t usually run from storms, but I started to Friday night. Tillatoba has a storm shelter down by the fire station and I’ve never graced it with my presence, but I came close to checking it out Friday night. Sadly, several lives were lost where the tornadoes touched down. Prayers for all the families who lost family members and their homes.
Our front porch visitors this past week were Kenny Dunning; Jason Beavers; Harvey Darby; Diane Dukes; Donna Garripoli; and Waylon, Holly and Haven Rose Dukes. We love sitting on our porch and visiting.
Harvey and I enjoyed talking about the history of Tillatoba and reminiscing about the ones long gone. I gave Harvey several pictures and a little history of Tillatoba that he is going to copy.
They will have an Easter egg hunt Saturday, April 1, at Cossar State Park at 10 a.m. If it rains, they will have it April 8, same time. The Easter Bunny will be there with 5,000 eggs to hide for the children to find.
Diane Dukes’ granddaughter, Morgan Dukes, said she enjoyed every minute of her spring break in Dallas, Texas, with her sister, Maddy, and her brother-in-law.
Diane and Nancy Chambers are getting ready to enjoy Diane’s pool with all of their grandkids and great-grandkids.
Milton Harper fell coming into their den from the sunroom. He fell flat on his face on the hardwood floor, busted his lip, got a black eye, cuts on both hands and a big knot on the calf of his right leg. The doctor ordered a chest X-ray and a CAT scan. He has three fractured ribs and has to sleep sitting up. Now, who was it that said something about getting old were our golden years?
Ginger Box Harrison said she hasn’t been anywhere lately but she did have a great birthday weekend. Everyone treated her very kind and she certainly feels the love. Well, that’s ’cause you are a very lovable person with the sweetest smile!
I sat by Martha Box at the funeral Sunday and she was feeling a lot better. Martha was sick most of the week with a stomach virus or food poisoning. She was one sick puppy there for a few days. I’m glad you are feeling so much better.
Happy anniversary on March 28 to Freddie Wayne and JoJo McClanahan. I hope you two have many more years to celebrate.

Our April birthdays start with Dana Jackson celebrating on the 2nd; Brent McMillian and Breanna Nobles on the 4th; and Bubba Williams, Jean Hill and Jake Harrison on the 5th. I pray you all have a blessed day celebrating.
Recipe for the week: Date Fingers
In a saucepan, combine:

Cook 5 to 7 minutes. Mixture will thicken. Remove from heat and add 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1 cup Rice Krispies and 1 cup of nuts.

Thought for the day: You don’t have to lie awake nights to succeed, just stay awake days.
