Love and sympathy to the Larry Moore Hunter family of Grenada. Mr. Hunter, 79, passed away Friday, July 10, at The Magnolia at Oxford Commons in Oxford. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Rebecca Conway Hunter; daughters, Amanda Hunter Brown (Riley) of Mantee and Lora Elizabeth Hunter (Channelle) of Oxford; son, Gregg Hunter of Eupora; sister, Peggy Nutt (Danny) of Vienna, Georgia; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Tillatoba Baptist Church VBS started Sunday afternoon, July 12, and was to run through July15 at 6 p.m. The title for this year’s VBS was Illumination Station. Diane Dukes reported there might have been 28 to 30 who were present for the first night. Not as good as last year but everybody had a good time, she said. Those helping with VBS were Diane Dukes, Virginia Beavers, Terri Dukes, Sam Pullen, Lori McCollums, Diane Loftin, Bubba Howe and Mark Hartley. Mark did the popcorn and it was delicious. Diane said she was slipping a few pieces of it while Terri wasn’t looking. (Diane is not supposed to be eating popcorn, but she said it smelled so good that she could not resist.) Diane said Brother Rickey preached a good sermon Sunday morning.
Debbie McCool reports keeping her son-in-law, Jason Beavers, busy this past week. He pulled up the carpet in their living room and put down a wood floor. One more coat of varnish and they would get to go home, she said. “It looks beautiful.”
Freda Weir said they are just trying to stay cool. I’m afraid that’s not easy these days, Freda!
Martha Box said this “dadgum heat is absolutely axycray” (crazy in pig Latin).” Bakersfield, California, at 116 degrees in the shade was more tolerable than this week at Tillatoba.
Princess Millie Kate, Martha Box’s new little great-granddaughter, came by to see her Friday. “As she was lying snug on Aunt Lillie’s shoulder, she heard GiGi’s voice. One week old and she raised her head and shoulders and looked about! Lol, we all almost jumped to attention!” said Martha.
Martha enjoyed “a great ride over to Pine Grove Church Sunday,” where she heard the “Wonderful Word per Bro. Scarborough. God's greatest creation among all His creations is the Way of Salvation for us all, Jesus!” She added how she enjoyed the singing and joy felt there and the visit with friends and family, along with her “handsome guitar-picking sweetheart Gboy Josh.” She missed Jake and hopes to see him next week.
Jacque Chambers said she has been busy taking care of the sick folks on The Compound after the Chambers family had an “eventful” 4th of July weekend. Starting off Friday the 3rd, Jacque’s mother-in-law Jenny Lou Chambers and sister-in-law Arica Box had a bad wreck in Grenada. Arica was flown out to Jackson with a deep laceration on her head which took three staples, and a small brain bleed. After the family left Jackson, Jacque took Jenny Chambers to the Charleston ER to get checked out by a great doctor. Everything was good with her; she is just banged up really bad. “The good Lord was in charge that day. Let me tell you those two ladies are definitely God’s favorites,” Jacque added. The whole family needs prayers. Jacque said they had one family member to witness the accident in Grenada and another to drive up on it. “Very traumatic situation for us all,” she said, adding, “Please just keep us in your prayers.”
Our visitors this week were Jason Beavers, Bobbby Ray Jackson and our daughter, Donna.
Celebrating birthdays this week are Patrick Darby on the 17th; Dale Dukes on the 18th; Holly Paige Dukes and Tommy McCool on the 19th; and Patricia Lindley on the 21st. I hope you all have a wonderful time celebrating your special day!

Thought for the day: I hate it when people ask me if I did anything exciting over the weekend. Like I’m over here skydiving. I’m old. I went to Walmart, did some laundry, ate too much food and took a nap.
