A big shout out and thank you to all of the men and women who work for the energy companies. We fuss out of aggravation, but when we realize how hard you work and the long, tireless hours, it makes us feel ashamed. You are our heroes!
Freddie Wayne McClanahan came home Thursday evening after a long stay in the hospital at Oxford. He is still on strong antibiotics. Home health is supposed to come check on him, said his sister, Lila Myrick. Lila also said Brandon McClanahan came to visit his dad and his uncle Bobby Joe and other relatives. Breanna McClanahan also visited with her dad and other family on Thursday. Kirsti and her children Liam, Fynlee and Remington, spent time with Bobby Joe and family recently.
Martha Box said it has been a hot few weeks for sure, but when the power went off Saturday evening, “the heat was on all night long.” Martha expressed thanks to Darby of “Wood and Stone” for coming by to offer help and a generator. Phil and Josh Harrison and Ben Box got her hooked up to save food and it cooled the den so much Martha said “my wore out self took a nap!” Martha missed church Sunday but had a great coffee and pancakes at daughter Ginger’s. “We discussed thankfully that our Lord is with us!” she said, adding, “The power came back so soon after the generator started, Brother Jesse Wortham had to come discharge the generator!”
Martha Box got to see her sweet great-granddaughter, “Princess Millie Kate,” the other day. “As they stepped in my door she heard GiGi’s voice and those eyes flew open and her smile melted my heart!” Martha explained. She said her sweet sister Addie is really spoiling that baby.
George Payne Cossar State Park is looking for volunteers to clean up the park after the storm Saturday night. Cossar had a great turnout for bingo last Wednesday, as about 20 people showed up. The next bingo will be Sept. 16.
Haven Rose Dukes had a wonderful time at Just Flip It in Oxford for her 6th birthday. Friends there from Tillatoba were Jo Pullen and Scottie Little.
Lauri McCullar is getting over the flu. She is said to be feeling much better.
Jacque Chambers said they finally got lights on after going to town and filling up jugs with $100 worth of gas. Her sister-in-law, Arica Box, called to say “The lights are on!”

Recipe of the week: “Forgotten cookies”
Ingredients:
2 egg whites
3/4 cup of sugar
3/4 cup nuts
6 oz bag chocolate chips
Beat egg whites until soft peaks. Add sugar and beat until stiff. Fold in nuts and chocolate chips. Drop by scant teaspoon on a large greased cookie sheet. Place in hot 375° oven. Turn off oven and leave cookies in overnight or until the oven is room temperature. It’s easy but good.
