Criminal indictments were handed down Feb. 15 by a grand jury empaneled in the 1st Judicial District of Tallahatchie County, and those court files are slowly finding their way into the public view.
No indictments were returned in the 2nd Judicial District, Circuit Clerk Daphane Neal said Monday.
Among those indicted in the 1st District, according to records on file Monday in Charleston:
» Christopher Darnell Richardson, 35, of 4333 Lyles Road, Senatobia, was indicted on charges in two cases.
In one case, Richardson was indicted on a charge of burglary of a building other than a dwelling and malicious mischief in connection with an Aug. 25, 2022, incident in which a store was burglarized.
In the other, he was indicted on charges of burglary of a dwelling/home invasion; and crimes against persons/aggravated stalking.
Those charges against Richardson are related to a Nov. 13, 2022, incident in which he is alleged to have broken into a home and showed threatening conduct that posed a “credible threat” toward a female inhabitant.
In both cases, Richardson is being handled as an habitual offender. According to court files, he has been previously convicted four times for burglary and once for stalking.
» Brandon Tyler Whitten, 27, of Grenada, was indicted Feb. 15 on two counts of grand larceny, one count of burglary and one count of malicious mischief in connection with June 25, 2022, incidents in Tallahatchie County.
On Feb. 27, Circuit Judge Smith Murphey V issued an order to remand all of those charges to the files pending Whitten’s successful completion of the drug intervention court program to which he was sentenced in another case charging receiving stolen property. Whitten also must pay $10,250 in restitution.
