A 16-year-old male was shot Monday night while riding in a car along Eskridge Street, just outside the Charleston city limits.
"We believe it was a targeted incident and it was not random," Tallahatchie County Sheriff Jimmy Fly said Thursday afternoon.
The shooting victim was struck once in the leg and was airlifted to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, noted the sheriff, who said the teen has since been discharged.
Fly said the shooting occurred just before 7:30 at a location on the road that was near 1391 Eskridge St.
“A car with four people inside was shot at as they were going by that address,” he explained.
The vehicle was occupied by four males, three of them juveniles and the fourth a 20-year-old, he noted.
The gunman was standing in a yard near the street, Fly said.
Investigators recovered 10 shell casings — a mixture of .40-caliber and 9 mm ammunition remnants.
“It’s believed the shooter had two pistols,” he noted.
Officials have a “person of interest” in the case, Fly said late Tuesday.
“We haven’t made an arrest yet, but we do have a suspect,” he explained.
