DeAntre “Tre” Prince of Charleston locked down a spot on the initial 53-man roster of the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars.
Tuesday was the deadline for NFL teams to pare down their rosters from a training camp maximum ledger of 90 players to their regular-season roster limit of 53.
After the Jaguars announced their reductions, it became clear that Prince had made the squad’s first official roster of the 2024 regular season.
The 23-year-old Prince is one of five cornerbacks listed on the Jaguars’ 53-man list.
A 6-0, 183-pound defensive back, Prince will wear No. 24 for the Jaguars.
The fifth-round pick of the Jaguars, number 153 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, Prince now awaits preparations for the upcoming campaign, which gets underway on Sept. 8 when the Jaguars travel to Miami to take on the Dolphins.
Prince’s mother, JacQueline “Jackie” Prince of Charleston, posted on her Facebook page late Tuesday afternoon, “...my baby made the cut...,” while adding, “DeAntre Prince I’m so so so proud of you, king.”
On his own Facebook page, Prince shared an image of the Jaguars’ 53-man roster and commented only by posting two praying hands emojis.
Prince is the first Tallahatchian ever to be drafted to play professional football in the National Football League. Several Tallahatchie countians have played in the NFL as free-agent signees, but Prince is the only one to have been drafted.
A 2019 graduate of Charleston High School and a former Charleston Tigers football standout, Prince also played for the Northeast Mississippi Community College Tigers and spent most of the last three years of his college career as a starting defensive back for the Ole Miss Rebels.
As one of 321 NFL hopefuls invited to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana, earlier this year, Prince excelled, tying for the fifth-fastest 40-yard dash time among defensive backs and leading all Combine prospects when he ran the 10-yard split in just 1.47 seconds.
