Unemployment in Tallahatchie County rose from 3.4% in May to 4.4% in June, according to the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.
In June, 200 Tallahatchians were unemployed, and 4,350 employed, from a labor force totaling 4,550. The labor force consists of everyone who has a job or is actively looking for one.
In May, 160 Tallahatchians were unemployed, and 4,380 employed, from a local labor force totaling 4,530.
Tallahatchie County’s June unemployment rate was 1% lower than the 5.4% jobless rate of June 2022, when 260 local residents were unemployed, and 4,550 employed, among a labor force tallying 4,810.
The national rate of unemployment during June was 3.8%, up four-tenths of a percent from May’s 3.4%, and identical to that of June 2022.
Mississippi’s jobless rate stood at 4.0% in June, up 1% from May’s 3.0% but seven-tenths better than the 4.7% of June 2022.
