Lightning struck near a home in the Paynes community Friday afternoon, according to Tallahatchie County Emergency Management Agency Director Thad Roberts.
Roberts said the strike hit a tree at the front of the home of Brian and Jennifer Snyder.
A photo of the aftermath shows the tree was split and bark and limbs were sent flying.
Roberts said one person was in the house when the strike occurred but was not injured. There was no immediate word of any damage to the home.
Roberts said Tallahatchie County was not under any weather advisories at the time of the 4:10 p.m. incident.
Cloud-to-ground lightning was prolific with storms that rolled through the area late Friday afternoon and into the evening hours.
The National Weather Service said more storms are possible Saturday afternoon.
