A Charleston man was killed Monday morning, Oct. 9, when the bicycle he was riding apparently veered off a city street and crashed into a ditch.
Henry Cooper, 67, of Curtis Drive, appeared to be westbound on Saint Charles Street before the incident, said Tallahatchie County Deputy Coroner Angie Davis, who ruled that Cooper died of “head trauma” after apparently falling into a concrete drainage ditch with culvert on the south side of the street. She said no foul play is suspected.
The ditch is on the north side of the Charleston High School campus.
Cooper’s body was discovered at 7:50 a.m.
Davis said she pronounced him dead at the scene at 8:40.
Charleston Police Chief Kirby Griffin said Tuesday that no determination has been made on what caused the incident.
“Everything is still under investigation,” Griffin noted.
