A Charleston-area pedestrian died Sunday evening after apparently being the victim of a hit-and-run incident on Blue Cane Road.
Tallahatchie County Sheriff Jimmy Fly identified the man as 64-year-old Alfred Hewittle of 1141 Nations Road, Charleston.
He said officials received a call at 5:33 p.m. from a motorist who reported finding someone lying in the graveled Blue Cane Road, near the intersection of Nations Road, who was injured and appeared to have been hit by a vehicle.
The sheriff said Hewittle was transported to the emergency room at Tallahatchie General Hospital, where he died a short time later.
“Right now, we’re following up on some possible leads but we don’t have any definite leads at this time,” Fly said Tuesday. “It’s still under investigation.”
The sheriff said Hewittle’s residence was located not far from where his body was discovered.
