If you owe delinquent municipal court fines to the city of Charleston, Police Chief Kirby Griffin has one message for you: Pay up or the police may be coming for you.
“This is a period of time for people to come in and pay their back fines as soon as possible,” the chief said. “Soon, we will start picking people up.”
Police have begun strictly enforcing bench warrants and arrest warrants for old fines, but Griffin said anyone who comes to City Hall before they are served with an arrest warrant will be considered for a payment plan.
Anyone who is uncertain about whether they owe a back fine to the city may inquire in person at the city clerk’s office, located at the front of Charleston City Hall.
