Circuit clerk’s offices in Charleston and Sumner, as well as all others around the state, will be open from 8 a.m. until noon on back-to-back Saturdays — Oct. 28 and Nov. 4 — to accommodate in-person absentee balloting for next month’s general election.
Mail-in absentee ballots also are available to any voter who meets any of the qualifications, which include, among others, any person who is 65 years of age or older, anyone who must be away from their county of residence on Election Day for any reason, any person who has a temporary or permanent physical disability, and anyone who will be unable to vote in person because they will be at work during the hours the polls are open.
To request a mail-in absentee ballot, call the circuit clerk’s office in Charleston at 662-647-8758 or in Sumner at 662-375-8515.
According to secretary of state's office statistics as of Oct. 23, a total of 75 Tallahatchie County residents had requested an absentee ballot from the circuit clerk’s office, 73 absentee ballots had been sent to voters and 42 completed ballots had been received from voters.

Statewide as of Monday, 23,321 absentee ballots had been requested, 22,697 had been sent and 15,858 had been received back by election officials, the secretary of state’s office reported.
Mail-in absentee ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and received within five business days of the Nov. 7 election in order to count.
