Four more political hopefuls filed qualifying papers within the past week to seek two school board seats and one constable position in Tallahatchie County on Nov. 5, according to the circuit clerk’s office in Charleston.
Roberta Levettie Redd, 54, of 1060 Ralph Dr., Glendora, has submitted a Qualifying Statement of Intent and a petition to seek the office of Education District 3, a seat on the West Tallahatchie School District Board of Trustees.
Darrell W. Neal, 56, of 13614 Tippo Road, Tippo, filed to seek reelection to the Education District 9 seat that he holds on the East Tallahatchie School District Board of Trustees. Neal presently serves as vice president of that board.
Robin L. Hodges, 32, of 1208 Carroll Dr., Charleston, has filed papers to challenge Neal for the Education District 9 post on the Charleston school board.
Frank Chambers, 61, of 4 Elm Circle, Charleston, filed paperwork to run for the District 2 constable seat.
The qualifying deadline for special elections for Tallahatchie County prosecuting attorney, justice court judge in the 1st Judicial District, constable in the 2nd Judicial District and Education District 3, and regular school board elections in Education District 4 and Education District 9, seats on the West and East Tallahatchie school boards, respectively, is Friday, Sept. 6, at 5 p.m.
There is no qualifying fee for any of these offices, but a Qualifying Statement of Intent and a petition bearing the signatures of a specified number of registered voters living within the boundaries of the office being sought are required. Fifty signatures are mandated for all of the petitions except that for the justice judge seat, which requires only 15 signatures.
