Two more people beat Friday’s qualifying deadline seeking to add their names to the list of Tallahatchians vying for local school board seats during the November general election, according to records on file Tuesday at the circuit clerk's office in Charleston.
Verry (Vera) Gary, 61, of 22166 Mississippi Highway 32, Charleston, filed qualifying papers for a regular election to seek the Education District 9 post, a slot on the East Tallahatchie School District Board of Trustees.
Gloria Madden Carter, 51, of 1010 Goosepond Circle, Tutwiler, submitted qualifying papers for a special election in Education District 3, a seat on the West Tallahatchie School District Board of Trustees.

Education District 4, West Tallahatchie school board:
• Sharon Elaine Bailey, 58, of Webb, had filed qualifying papers but was disqualified by the Tallahatchie County Election Commission Tuesday. Per state law, a person’s name cannot appear on the ballot twice at the same time, and the last office qualified for is the one the person may seek. Bailey filed qualifying papers for ED4 on Aug. 7 and for constable on Aug. 21. No one else qualified for the ED4 post.
