Charleston High School will conduct graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2023 Friday at 7 p.m. in the Morgan Freeman Auditorium.
CHS has announced 61 candidates for graduation.
For the first time since emergence of the pandemic, the wearing of face masks in the auditorium will not be mandatory for commencement exercises.
Processional music will play as cap-and-gown-clad seniors file into the auditorium at the beginning of the ceremony.
Caley Patterson, an honor graduate and secretary of the senior class, will extend the official welcome.
Lakeria McCord will offer the invocation, after which fellow honor graduate Jaylon Brooks will lead the crowd in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
Honor graduate Jasmine Tellis will introduce the members of the East Tallahatchie School District Board of Trustees.
Class President Ayden Brooks, the son of Traneika Goodwin and the late Daniel Brooks, will deliver the salutatory address.
Class Vice President Lamaya Tellis, the daughter of Dewanda Tellis and Ricky Wilder, will deliver the valedictory address.
Principal Eric Rice will present candidates for graduation. East Tallahatchie School Superintendent Marvell Hudson will issue the diplomas.
The benediction will be offered by newly credentialed CHS graduate La’Jaysha Williams, an honor graduate, with the recessional to follow.
In addition to those already named, Hernando Edwards Jr. is also an honor graduate.
The flowers of the CHS graduating class are yellow and white roses. Class colors are white and gold.
The 2023 CHS graduation program is being dedicated to the memory of the late John Henry Keshawn Taylor, who was a member of the class.
West Tallahatchie High School is scheduled to host graduation ceremonies on Saturday, May 27, starting at 10 a.m. in the school auditorium. Details have not yet been made public.
