The seventh Charleston Mayor’s Charity Ball will be held Saturday, March 25, in Alford’s Gym on the campus of Charleston Middle School, Mayor Sedrick Smith Sr. announced Monday.
Tickets are available now.
The Charity Ball, a black-tie gala benefiting the American Cancer Society, was launched in 2014 and was held for six consecutive years, last on March 30, 2019.
Due to the pandemic, the event was cancelled in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
“Being able to gather together again for a worthy cause will be very beneficial for the community,” said Smith.
Doors will open at 4 p.m. The formal program, which will feature a lineup of speakers that Smith said is still being finalized, is scheduled to get underway at 6.
The mayor said Dana Clolinger, executive director of the Charleston Arts and Revitalization Effort (CARE), will be the mistress of order for the event. Greenville Mayor Errick D. Simmons is tentatively inked as the master of order, Smith added.
Joann Hoskins of Tutwiler, who is a culinary instructor at Coahoma Community College in Clarksdale, again will cater the buffet-style meal.
The evening will feature live musical entertainment and dancing as the night wears on, said Smith, explaining that a decision on which of two possible bands will be performing was scheduled to be made by organizers Thursday.
Proceeds from the ticketed event benefit the local chapter of the American Cancer Society and a check will be presented to a local ACS representative on the night of the festivities, Smith noted.
Tickets are $35 and may be purchased at Charleston City Hall and the CARE building.
For more information, call Smith at 662-647-4171, City Hall at 662-647-5841 or Smith’s sister and one of the organizers, Carolyn Johnson, at 662-647-1346.
Tickets will not be available for purchase at the door on the evening of the event, the mayor noted.
