Deondre Riley of Charleston High School participated in Saturday’s (March 18) 2023 Mississippi Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center North/South 1A-3A All-Star Basketball Game at A.E. Wood Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi College in Clinton.
Riley, a 6-0, 177-pound junior guard, was one of 13 players named to the North Mississippi squad for the game, which featured star athletes from Mississippi High School Activities Association classes 1A, 2A and 3A.
Charleston is a 2A school.
Riley wore a No. 13 jersey.
The North team won the game, 68-66. Down 40-35 at the half and 58-46 after three periods, the North All-Stars came charging back, outscoring the South 22-8 in the final stanza to pull out the victory.
Riley was 2-of-5 on field goal attempts in the game, contributing 4 points. He also had two rebounds and two steals in his 11 minutes of action for the North unit.
CHS boys basketball head coach Jeff Hollingsworth said Tuesday that Riley was a worthy selection.
“He worked hard this season and I’m proud he got the opportunity to represent us for the North in the All-Star game. He is deserving of this,” Hollingsworth noted.
