For a third straight year, the Charleston High School girls track and field team has won the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 2A North State Track Meet.
On Monday, the Lady Tigers will seek a second consecutive state title when they compete in the MHSAA Class 2A Girls Track and Field State Championships at Pearl High School.
If they succeed, the CHS ladies will have won a state track championship in back-to-back years for the first time since doing so in 2012 and 2013, when the school was in Class 3A.
2A South State girls champ St. Andrew’s Episcopal School of Jackson won the 2A South with 151 points, besting second-place finisher Amite County, which had 84.
One advantage for Charleston is that the Lady Tigers advanced athletes to state in 15 events. St. Andrew’s athletes qualified for the state meet in only 12 events.

At the 2A North State Track Meet Saturday, April 27, in Winona, Charleston’s girls won first place with 175 team points — 90 points more than second-place finisher East Union, with 85.
The CHS boys very nearly joined their female counterparts in winning the 2A North — both squads did so in 2023 — but Northside won with 158 points. CHS was just a few steps behind, finishing second with 150.
The CHS boys have never won a track and field state championship, but they have been state runners-up twice, in 2004 and 2016, and finished third in 2003, 2005 and 2006.
