TUTWILER — Up to 252 beds at the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility (TCCF) here may be used to house detainees from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to contract modifications announced Thursday by the private prison's parent company, Nashville-based CoreCivic.
CoreCivic's announcement, as reported by Yahoo!finance, also mentioned contract modifications adding capacity for up to 784 ICE detainees at three other facilities the company operates: Northeast Ohio Correctional Center, Nevada Southern Detention Center and Cimarron Correctional Facility in Oklahoma.
"We are pleased to provide U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement with this additional capacity," said CoreCivic CEO Damon T. Hininger. "We are entering a period where our government partners, particularly our federal government partners, are expected to have increased demand. We anticipate additional contracting activity that will help satisfy their growing needs."
The customer base of the medium-security TCCF in Tutwiler includes inmates from Tallahatchie County, the Montana Department of Corrections, South Carolina Department of Corrections, Vermont Department of Corrections, Wyoming Department of Corrections, Harris County, Hinds County, U.S. Marshals Service and U.S. Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections, according to the facility's website.
