West Tallahatchie High School’s boys and girls placed first and second, respectively, in Friday’s Region 5-1A track and field meet in Clarksdale.
The West Tally men accumulated 140 team points, comfortably outdistancing second-place finisher Leland, with 110. Shaw and Simmons both had 72 points, West Bolivar 54 and South Delta 45. A year ago, the Choctaws finished eighth overall at the 1A state meet.
South Delta ran away with the women’s championship, capturing 158 points. West Tally was second with 122, Leland third with 100, Simmons fourth with 62, West Bolivar fifth with 42 and Shaw sixth with 13.
