WEBB — After a scheduled open week, the West Tallahatchie High School Choctaws will return to action this Friday night when they host the Coffeeville High School Pirates during homecoming at Choctaw Stadium here.
The 4-2 Choctaws will face the 2-5 Pirates in the Region 4-1A opener for both schools. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
The Pirates started the season by losing five games before finally getting into the win column with a 20-14 win over 2-5 Strayhorn, followed by last week’s 32-0 victory over 0-7 Ashland.
West Tally head coach Shane Hargett, no fan of homecoming due to potential distractions from festivities during the week and on game night, is hoping his team will rebound from their last outing, an improbable 39-38 loss at North Panola that came after the Chocs led 38-12 at the half.
West Tally had won four of five games before that Oct. 3 breakdown, and this extra time off to lick their wounds, “patch up some stuff,” as Hargett noted, and refocus their energies on what still lies before them should reinvigorate the Choctaws.
“The preseason, as I call it, is over with,” Hargett said, referring to non-regional games on the schedule that do not impact the playoff picture, including seeding. “Everything counts now, and everybody is back to 0-0.”
