OAKLAND — The Oakland Yalo-Ribbon Festival, in its fourth year, kicks off at 3 p.m. this Saturday, May 3.
Vendors and the Kids Zone along with DJ Bob Murphree lead off the festival. The popular cake walk begins at 3:30 p.m. with tickets available at the Oakland Area Chamber booth beginning at 2:30 p.m. Live music begins at 4 p.m.
Local country music favorites Jessey Higdon and Steve McGregory lead off the afternoon’s live music. McGregory is well-known in Oakland as the pianist at Oakland Baptist Church. The two musicians have played together for years now and cover country plus fan favorites like Jimmy Buffet. McGregory has played on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry.
New to the Oakland stage this year is Tanner Mills, who plays country music ranging from the ’90s to present day. Tanner begins at 5 p.m.
Closing out the music will be the duo Variety. They perform around the Mid-South to great reviews. The duo’s performance begins at 6 p.m. Live music is sponsored by the Ed and Becky Meek Foundation. No coolers.
The Kids Zone, staffed by volunteers from the Oakland Lions Club, will feature the mechanical bull ride again this year along with face-painting and multiple games and events.
