The Desha County Museum, located at 264 US-165, Dumas, Arkansas, will host a book signing for Jeanne E. Richards’s debut novel “Tarnation!” on Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Jeanne is a longtime resident of southeast Arkansas. She grew up in Gould and lives on her family’s farm. She is a 1977 graduate of Henderson State University and obtained her Juris Doctor from the University of Arkansas School of Law, Fayetteville, in 1980.

The Syrene Missionary Baptist Church will be collecting items for their Community Donation Box ending April 30, 2026.
The church is collecting gently used clothing, canned and boxed food (not expired items) and toiletries and personal itms.
The donations can be dropped at three locations.
Location 1: Dumas Public Library 120 Choctaw Street Dumas, AR.
Location 2: Southern Starch Dry Cleaners 720 Meador Drive Dumas, AR.
Location 3: Chamber of Commerce 165 S. Main Street Dumas, AR.

A new beauty business is bringing fresh energy to downtown Dumas as J&A Beauty, owned by Kayla Joyner, officially opened its doors with a ribbon-cutting celebration surrounded by family, friends, and community supporters.
Joyner, a licensed barber and graduate of Northern Technical College, has turned a lifelong passion into a growing business. She shared that her journey into cosmetology began at a young age, practicing on family members and developing a love for the craft that continued to grow over the years.

HOT SPICED FRUIT
16 oz can apricots
16 oz can peaches
1/2 cup sliced cherries
16 oz can pineapple chunks
1/3 cup butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 tsp curry powder
1 tsp ginger
Drain fruit and pour in casserole. Melt butter, add sugar and spices and mix. Pour over fruit. Bake at 325 for 1 hour. Serve hot.
WARM FUDGE SAUCE
3 oz unsweetened
chocolate
1 c sugar
1/2 c light corn syrup
1/4 c water
1 c evaporated milk
1 tsp vanilla

Walter Hall Post 84 American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary are seeking sponsorships for students to attend Boys and Girls State this summer. We have received a number ofrequests from students who wish to attend. The cost for Boys State Delegates for the week.long event will be $250 per student. The Girls State Delegates cost will be $300 per student. Sessions will be held on the campuses ofUCA in Conway and Harding University in Searcy.

Theft of Public Benefits $500 or less
On January 13th, 2026 at approximately 4:30 PM, Sgt Crystal Martin was dispatched to Family Dollar in reference of Theft. Upon arrival, She made contact with a . Ms. Canady stated someone used her EBT card without permission on January 12 at approximately 4:07 pm. Martin spoke with the Family Dollar manager who reviewed the footage.

The Reed Elementary Sneaker Ball will be held April 10, 2026
Pre-K through 2nd grade will be partying from 5:30-7:00 pm and 3rd through 5th grade Intermissionw ill be from 7-7:30 pm. Admission is free. The Dumas Founders Day will be an activity packed family-Friendly event Saturday, April 25 on Dumas Main Street. This is the 3rd year for the Dumas to celebrate its culture, history and community beginning in 2024. The Dumas Founder's Day committee has big plans for the third annual Founder's Day. DJ Dog Gone Crazy Shannon Coger will be MC for the event. The festival will open Saturday at 10 and will close at 9 pm.

Arkansas City, AR — The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Put the Phone Away or Pay campaign is reminding drivers of the deadly dangers and legal consequences — including fines — of texting and other forms of messaging behind the wheel. From April 9-13, 2026, law enforcement nationwide will work together to enforce laws prohibiting distracted driving behind the wheel. These efforts come during National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

If you work in any part of the agriculture industry, particularly on the farm side, you are probably aware of the negative changes taking place in Arkansas. If not, here is a synopsis: Arkansas led the nation in 2025 in the number of Chapter 12 farm bankruptcies, with thirty-three, according to numerous news organizations. There have also been more than one hundred farm auctions in Arkansas. Of course, there is no telling how many farms are teetering on the edge, have laid off staff, or have had to take other drastic measures to keep operating.
