The City of Dumas is opening a second round of recruitment for the Dumas Youth Council. All students in grades 9-12, as well as college students, who are interested in leadership, civic engagement, and serving in their community are encouraged to apply. There are 17 slots available.
Applications may be picked up from the City of Dumas or Councilmember Tironeka Brown and must be returned no later than January 16, 2026. For more information, please contact the City of Dumas or Councilmember Tironeka Brown.

The Dumas Senior Bobcats played a close game against the Hamburg Lions winning the game Thursday 40-42. The closely match teams stayed close in point range throughout the the game with Hamburg closing the game with a winning 2 point shot as the last seconds as the clock ran out.

On Thursday, December 11 th , Sheriff Mitch Grant and Sergeant Roland Brown traveled to the Benton Event Center, for the 23rd Annual Arkansas Attorney General’s Law Enforcement Officer of Year awards luncheon.
Each year the Attorney General’s Office picks a Law Enforcement Officer from each county to receive the award. In addition, there are five regional winners, and one who is chosen as the state winner.

Reed Elementary held their Christmas Musical for Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade December 3, 2025. “There’s nothing like parental support—both academically and during the special events we host here at Reed Elementary School. Our students performed exceptionally well at today’s Christmas musical!” The school said.
The Dumas School District thanked their amazing Music Teacher/Director, Mrs. April Morgan for ensuring our students received a memorable, high-quality musical experience.

FAYETTEVILLE, AR (12/02/2025)-- Kaiden Daniels of Dumas was awarded the David R. and Marsha L. Crittenden Endowed Scholarship this academic year from the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas.
This award was one of 3,768 scholarships totaling $5.1 million given to Fulbright College undergraduate and graduate students across four academic disciplines: arts, humanities, natural sciences and social sciences.

The spirit of the season is in full swing as the community gathered for the 5th Annual Christmas Toy Drive, a free holiday event designed to support local families and teach children the joy of giving Saturday, December 6 at the Dumas Community Center’s Exhibit Hall.
Hosted by SMOD and partnering community organizations, the toy drive has grown each year, becoming one of the most anticipated seasonal events in Desha county Organizers say the goal is simple: to spread joy, provide essential items to families, and bring neighbors together in the spirit of unity.

As Thanksgiving approaches, community organizations in Dumas are joining forces to ensure that local families have the opportunity to enjoy a traditional holiday meal.
A Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway took place on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at in the Dumas Public Library parking lot. The event was open to the public and will operate on a first-come, first-served basis.
