At times, immigration is a blessing both to the migrant and to the nation that adopts them. America’s scientific community has benefited from immigrants like Albert Einstein and Wernher von Braun. Hollywood has been enhanced by immigrants like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Salma Hayek.

Attitudes toward taxes depend upon who imposes them and how governments use the revenue. Modern attitudes toward taxes and tax collectors have a long history shaped at least in part by the Judeo-Christian canon. The Bible’s first mention of taxes is in Genesis 41 where Joseph advises Pharoah to collect a 20 percent in-kind tax in order to lay up provisions for coming seven years of famine. The proceeds of that tax were put to good use providing benefits for all Egyptians, including Joseph’s family.

Imagine your family spent more this year than you earned. Uncomfortable, but manageable. Now imagine your family had spent more than it earned every single year since 2001. By now you would be destitute.
That is what the federal government has been doing.
For the past 25 years — ever since Bill Clinton left the White House — Washington has spent more than it has taken in. Every single year. The national debt now stands at $39 trillion.

“The biggest mistakes are mistakes of omission, not commission. It’s the things you knew enough to do — they were within your circle of competence — and you were sucking your thumb. Those are the ones that hurt.” — Warren Buffett, University of Georgia, 2001

19-year-old Stephen Spencer Pittman is accused of setting fire to the largest Jewish house of worship in Mississippi.
Court documents show that U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate has once again granted a continuance in the approaching trial of Stephen Spencer Pittman, the 19-year-old who allegedly set fire to the Beth Israel Congregation Synagogue in January.
Pittman’s attorneys sought additional time to review the discovery materials, a request federal prosecutors did not object to before the court.

Below is a religion column by Matt Friedeman:
Jesus is sufficient in a huge and uplifted way for any challenge that might await you.
One of the craziest questions in the entire Bible came from two guys in white robes who asked, “Why do you stand looking into heaven?”
I never want to accuse anyone, much less (in all likelihood) two angels, of posing a dumb question; but if ever there were one, this would be it.

According to the Mississippi School Boards Association, nearly 72% of school board members in the state’s 138 school districts are elected. 23 districts have both elected and appointed board members.
An effort was made during the 2026 legislative session to make all Mississippi school board seats elected, but the legislation failed to garner the support necessary to reach the governor’s desk. Another push to make the change is expected when lawmakers return in January.
