Tyler claims 4A State Tennis Title, caps dominant season for Kosciusko

Kosciusko junior Hayes Tyler lost only two sets this year on his way to the 4A individual state boys singles tennis championship, and both came against Tyson Alford of Houston.
In matches during the regular season and in the Region 4-4A tournament, Tyler and Alford split sets before Tyler won a 10-point tiebreaker, 10-5 each time.

Spivey-Phillips sprint duel highlights McAdams’ top-10 finish at South State Meet

McAdams boys finished seventh and the girls were eighth at the 1A South State track meet hosted by Clinton High School.
The top eight teams for boys were Simmons with 83 points, Leflore County 77, Taylorsville 77, Leake County 46, Richton 46, Resurrection 43, McAdams 42 and Noxapater 38. Ethel was 16th with nine points.

Whippets send Trio to State after strong showing at 4A North Meet

Kosciusko boys finished seventh at the 4A North State track meet and qualified two individuals and one relay team for the 4A state meet Friday at Pearl High School. Top four in each even qualified for state.
Mylan Johnson was second in the triple jump, covering 41 feet, 8½ inches, and Travion Nash was fourth in the shot put with a throw of 43 feet 3 inches.

UMMC will use the funds to ensure those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic have access to mental health care, especially in rural areas of Mississippi.
More than $13.4 million in federal funding is being allocated to the University of Mississippi Medical Center to bolster mental health programs in the state.
Governor Tate Reeves (R) announced the approval of the allocation by the Mississippi Development Authority on Thursday. The Community Development Block Grant funding is made possible under the CARES Act.

State Senator Dean Kirby has served in the Mississippi Senate since 1992. He will not seek a 10th term next year. State Rep. Lee Yancey, a former state senator, will run to succeed Kirby instead of seeking a statewide office.
Senate President Pro Tempore Dean Kirby (R) has announced that he will not be seeking re-election to the Mississippi Senate in 2027.
Kirby, who turns 80 this year, has served in the state Senate since 1992. He represents Senate District 30 and has been the chamber’s Pro Tem since 2020.
