Employees of the Leflore County Juvenile Detention Center walked off the job Friday after not receiving any pay since Nov. 7, shutting down the facility.
In an email sent Friday morning to Leflore County Sheriff James Payne and Leflore County Administrator Cynthia Stanciel and shared with the Commonwealth, Leflore County and Youth Court Judge James Littleton said the detention center shut down since no employees of the center were at work to provide security, book juveniles held there or perform drug tests, among other services.

CHARLESTON — Marty DeWitt Martin, age 61, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 6, in Oxford.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, at Friendship Church of God Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his son, Dustin Martin.
He is survived by his daughter, Brittiany Ann Martin of Denham Springs, Louisiana; his parents, Robert “Buddy” Charles and Judy Martin of Enid; two brothers, and a sister.

The legislation would transfer $500 million from the Capital Expense Fund to the PERS account as of July 1, and would direct subsequent $50 million transfers through 2036.
The Mississippi Senate Appropriations Committee took less than five minutes Tuesday afternoon to approve transferring hundreds of millions of dollars in state funds to shore up the Public Employees’ Retirement System, or PERS, by unanimous vote.
