In an unusual feat, both the boys and girls varsity basketball teams from both Charleston High School and West Tallahatchie High School have advanced to the second round of the Mississippi High School Activities Association state playoffs.
On the girls side:
The CHS Lady Tigers and the WTHS Lady Choctaws play second-round games tonight (Feb. 20).

Funeral services were 11:00 am Friday, February 20, 2026, at Ethel Baptist Church with burial following at Carson Ridge Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Culpepper Funeral Home in Kosciusko, MS from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm and after 10:00 am Friday at Ethel Baptist Church, Ethel, MS.
He was a graduate of Canton High School and attended Holmes Community College School of Drafting.

Funeral services were at Parkway Baptist Church in Kosciusko Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Burial followed the service at Parkway Cemetery. Visitation was at Parkway Baptist Church from 12 noon until service time Thursday.

Lisa Lee, 61, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Baptist Attala in Kosciusko.
Funeral services were 11:00 AM Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Culpepper Funeral Home Chapel in Kosciusko. Burial followed at Parkway Cemetery. Visitation was from 9:00 AM until the service time Thursday.
Lisa is survived by her husband Roy Lee; sons Zach Lee (Amy) and Wesley Lee; brothers Hayden Self and Rob Howell; 9 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

James R. “Russ” Oliver
Russ Oliver, 71, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at his residence in Kosciusko.
No services will be held at this time.
Russ is survived by his life partner of 33 years Eula Mae Pollard and uncle Dr. Stanley Hartness.
He loved music and played the guitar and was an avid on-line reader and web user.
Russ is preceded in death by his parents James Dendy “Buster” and Gloria Hartness Oliver and an infant sister.

Charlotte McDaniel, 79, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Highland Home in Ridgeland, MS.
Funeral services are 2:00 pm Wednesday, February 11, 2026, graveside at McClain Cemetery in Newport. No visitation is planned.
Charlotte is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Zetha Pickle McDaniel, sisters Lynda Hutchison and Jo Betty Aldy and brother Bobby Hugh McDaniel.
