Warm and pleasant greetings to all. Happy back to school and best wishes for a successful year.
Starting a new school year has always been an exciting time for most parents and students. Perhaps teachers are eager to approach a new year, especially for beginning teachers.
Our community welcomes you and supports you.
Taylor and I are excited to see our one and forever grandchild, Ethan, start his high school senior year. He’s already taken his senior portraits and is excited to design his parking space at school. We are not sure who’s the happiest to know he’s gotten this far sooner than it seems, he, his parents or grandparents.
During some serious cleaning, I found among some random scraps several containers of talcum powder. Like most individuals, we discontinued using talcum powder. Remember, one company ended sales of baby powder containing talc, switching to a formulated cornstarch base. Remember all the lawsuits in the U.S. relating to baby powder contaminated with asbestos causing ovarian cancer or mesothelioma?
There are a few useful things for talcum powder. Be careful using talcum powder as personal and beauty care. However, there are some household hacks that sound reasonable and safe. Sprinkle powder on your bed sheet to absorb moisture and odor. Sprinkling on sandy skin will help sand slide right off. Sprinkle inside shoes, sprinkle on grease stains on clothing.
Talcum powder can dry out mold and moisture from old books. I will try sprinkling powder outside around areas where ants are frequent. They say the powder will disrupt the trail and will also discourage rabbits from eating flowers and vegetables! (Which I don’t have.)
Smile, hold it right there, not because you are on camera! Smiling is important. It says you are kind, happy and approachable. A smile automatically attracts.
I know many people who possess a smile almost every time you meet them. We are not always looking at teeth, but think about your teeth making your smile shine. Adult humans have 32 teeth. Our teeth help us chew, speak and smile, and live comfortably.
Loosing your teeth can affect more than your smile. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the average older adult has about 20 remaining teeth. The article stated having nine teeth or fewer is associated with a higher risk of any cause of death, including heart disease and cancer, compared with those who retained at least 20.
Chronic diseases can make for more problems vulnerable to developing gum disease. The bottom line is, take care of your teeth because it matters as we age.
Taylor and I both have most of our teeth and have kept up with dental checkups. At times, I simply dread the regular dental cleaning. Taylor is calm about this and I have never known him to miss a brush or floss before bedtime, whatever hour.
Keep smiling. It’s good for the soul.
Stay safe and stay mindful of the exceptionally warm weather. The heat waves give intensity and discomfort. The hot weather can be dangerous!
Enjoy life today. Be blessed.
