Warm and pleasant greetings. We hope you are having a good week. Some days are more challenging than others but we get through these days caring and sharing with others.
We don’t have much to say this week. I thought you would get a smirk or two from this text I found on my old clipboard from my years of newspaper clipping and picking. You may remember reading this before.
The following is a letter from a Louisiana mom to her son.
Dear Son: I’m writing this slow because I know you can’t read fast. We don’t live where we did when you left. Your dad read in the paper where most accidents happen within twenty miles of home, so we moved. I won’t be able to send you the address as the last Louisiana family that lived here took the numbers with them for their next house so they wouldn’t have to change address.
This place has a washing machine. The first day I put four shirts in it and pulled the chain and haven’t seen ’em since. It only rained twice this week, three days the first time and four days the second time.
I showed your Aunt Sue the coat you wanted me to send you and she said it would be a little too heavy to send in mail with them heavy buttons, so we cut them off and put them in the pockets.
We got a bill from the funeral home, saying if we didn’t make the last payment on Grandma’s funeral, up she comes. About your father; he has a lovely new job. He has over 500 men under him. He is cutting grass at the cemetery.
About your sister, she had a baby this morning. I haven’t found out whether it is a boy or girl, so I don’t know if you are an aunt or uncle.
Your Uncle John fell in the whiskey vat. Some men tried to pull him out. But, he fought them off playfully so he drowned. We cremated him. He burned for three days.
Three of your friends went off the bridge in a pickup. One was driving and the other two were in the back. The driver got out. He rolled the window down and swam to safety. The other two drowned. They couldn’t get the tailgate down.
Not much more news this time, nothing much has happened. Write more often. Love, Mom
P.S. Was going to send you some money, but the envelope was already sealed.
We hope your Sunday school classes at church are having good attendance and participation. These lessons each week provide Bible study, spiritual growth and community building. It helps to develop a personal relationship with God and apply faith to daily living. You are a better person when you attend Sunday school and other Bible training classes.
The spring quarter for our church study presents an engaging exploration of the social challenges historically faced by faithful Christians.
It invites reflection on how the church today can embody Christ’s presence in addressing similar issues in our contemporary context. Lessons focus on Filling Our Obligations to: Neighbors; Families and Communities; and to God and Society.
If you have drifted away from church, why not go back this Sunday. Take your family/(child) to the house of God and get the same good feeling that only a renewal of your faith can bring. You need the church and the church needs you!
Blessings.
