Warm and pleasant greetings to all as we welcome in the month of September. This month, like all others, celebrates the most familiar holidays, Labor Day and Grandparents Day, which is Sunday, Sept. 7.
We hope you enjoyed a safe and memorable Labor Day weekend, and hope this week is going well with you. September recognizes many special days and weeks.
This week we mention National Food Safety Education Month. Both the public and private sectors take a role in preventing foodborne illness, more familiarly known as “food poisoning.” USDA Food and Drug Administration estimates that 48 million cases of foodborne illness occur annually. That’s 1 in 6 Americans each year, resulting in 128,000 hospitalized and 3,000 deaths.
Chicken (poultry) is the most consumed meat anywhere. When handling raw chicken, keep it separated from fresh produce in your grocery basket, in the refrigerator and during food preparation. Do not prepare raw chicken at any time on the same board you use for vegetables. You need a cutting board for meats only and one for vegetables only.
We would like to mention our young friend Marco Brewer for several reasons, and perhaps the same reason as you would know him. Marco enjoys places to be around people he has become most familiar with, such as church, community activities and even homecoming services.
To start from the beginning, Marco lived in the Blue Cane community when he was in high school. He would visit our home some Sunday evenings and play the piano and sing. At the time, he was taking piano lessons from Ms. Maxine Willis and just learning the keyboard. He was anxious to learn, and now we know.
Marco shares this gift wherever and whenever he can be of service.
Marco loves church and community services. He serves four churches across Tallahatchie County as their musician.
He often visits the elderly at home and the Extended Care Facility to play and sing and get hugs with different ones. Marco has done a wonderful job outlining and organizing collages and programs, bulletins and leaflets. Facebook is where you may find his art, too.
He wears his suits perfectly coordinated. He is cool, with or without his hats and caps. Marco may smile or not, at any given time letting you know he’s serious about the matter. He is busy during the week with his occupation with Global Insurance Company.
Marco, keep your good works in favor. We know you endeavor to do the best you know with the job assigned. Our love to you, Marco, and the (so) many others who know you, too.
I thought this was a powerful quote: The simple toy, one the youngest can operate, is called “Grandparent.”
Take a moment to appreciate all the joy and wisdom that grandparents bring to our lives.
After all, this day was designed to help children become aware of the strength, information and guidance older people can offer.
Happy Grandparents Day to all.
