CHS earns medals in 11 events at 2A state track championships

Charleston High School athletes won gold medals in two relay events, silver in four events and bronze in five events during Monday’s (May 12) Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 2A Track and Field State Championships at the Woody Barnett Track and Field Complex at Pearl High School.

In team rankings, both the CHS girls and boys placed third overall.

The Lady Tigers had won back-to-back state titles in 2023 and 2024.

The CHS boys were third in 2024 and fifth in 2023.

Having won both 2A South State championships, St. Andrew’s Episcopal School of Ridgeland closed the season with a sweep at state.

Girls

Medaling at state were the following Charleston athletes:

» 4x200-meter relay: Alena Collins, Jada Leavy, Tykeria Davis and Keasia Goliday, first place, 1:49.61, for the third straight year that CHS has taken gold in this event

» 4x100-meter relay: Tykeria Davis, Alena Collins, Jada Leavy and Keasia Goliday, second place, 51.53

» 200-meter dash: Alena Collins, second place, 25.98

» Discus throw: Shamiya Bass, second place, 87-7

» 100-meter dash: Alena Collins, third place, 12.69

» Shot put: Shamiya Bass, third place, 30-4.75

Medaling at state were the following Charleston athletes:

» 4x100-meter relay: Demarion Johnson, Lezelrick Taylor, Brandon Henderson and Lamarion Brown, first place, 43.63

» 200-meter dash: Brandon Henderson, second place, 22.62

» 4x200-meter relay: Brandon Henderson, Demarion Johnson, Mac Crawford and Lamarion Brown, third place, 1:32:17

» 100-meter dash: Lamarion Brown, third place, 11.17

» 200-meter dash: Lamarion Brown, third place, 22.89

» Long jump: Keasia Goliday, fourth place, 15-11.5

» 400-meter dash: Keasia Goliday, fifth place, 1:06.39

» 4x400-meter relay team: De’Moria Shannon, Francheska Robey, Carmis Hill and Keasia Goliday, seventh place, 4:41.44

» 800-meter run: De’Moria Shannon, eighth place, 2:52.70

» Kamoria Gary, 100-meter hurdles, no time

» 300-meter hurdles: Marcus Flowers, fourth place, 42.50

» 400-meter dash: Mac Crawford, fourth place, 52.74

» Triple jump: Marcus Flowers, fifth place, 42-4.5

» Pole vault: Timothy Kirk, fifth place, 9-0

» 110-meter hurdles: Martiquez Latham, sixth place, 16.26

» Long jump: Demarion Johnson, sixth place, 19-7

» Triple jump: Demarion Johnson, seventh place, 41-3.5

» 4x400-meter relay: Aybekia Bradley, Omari Price, Rondarius Stamps and Mac Crawford, seventh place, 3:38.01

» 100-meter dash: Brandon Henderson, eighth place, 11.58

» Discus throw: Demoria Shannon, DQ
