Excitement is starting to build for our Gateway to the Delta Festival on Oct. 10.
Last week we announced those gentlemen who have volunteered (or were drafted) to put on extra ChapStick and kiss up on that little piglet during the Kiss the Pig contest that will conclude on the day of the festival. Following in the footsteps of David Groner and Glenna Callender, Jimmy Fly, Jon Taylor and Ping Pong Paris have already been campaigning and votes are starting to come into CARE and into their jars around town. Remember, each vote is $1. Jars for each contestant are located in The Sun-Sentinel office and CARE, and funds will be accepted up until 3:30 on the afternoon of the Gateway Festival. Votes may also be cast via venmo@CAREarts. Of course, the person with the most money donated in their name kisses the piglet.
Next up on the Gateway stage will be an old favorite, but they will have a slightly different look in 2026. SLASH will again play in their normal entertainment spot from 5 to 6:30 that evening. Steve Simmons on drums and Kelvin Simmons on lead guitar will be joined by two familiar faces – John Burt Strider on lead vocals/guitar and Boyd Coker on bass.
SLASH is known for their Southern style rock and classic country, with a little bit of new country thrown into the playlist. However, they promise some new selections this year that everyone will know and love.
Now, we did not forget those of you who love country music. We are excited to welcome back Shameless All-Star Country Band. They joined us for Gateway 2025 and were a huge hit when they played earlier in the afternoon. As a result of many requests to have them return this year, they accepted our invitation.
Shameless is a group of musicians from several top bands from North Mississippi, playing the classic country hits of the ’80s and ’90s. Their high-energy country sound is packed with powerhouse performances, Southern pride, and shamelessly good music. Shameless All-Star Country Band performs all over the state for numerous events and festivals.
Whew! It is going to be another packed day of fun and excitement on Oct. 10.
We can’t wait to see you at Gateway 2026 on the Charleston Court Square!
