The Charleston-based youth baseball team, the JSU Tigers All Stars, are ranked No. 1 nationally in the latest Grand Slam Sports Tournaments team rankings in the 11 and under age division of Class AA.
The Tigers are the travel team of the Robert Hill Youth Foundation and boast a record of 8-1-1 after playing in two events this season.
"Unbelievable to be ranked as the #1 team in the nation in Grand Slam Baseball 11AA," said the team's head coach, Cedric Terry. "A huge accomplishment for kids from the Mississippi Delta. Thanks to all coaches, parents, players and sponsors."
The team has averaged more than 10 runs per outing while giving up just over 3 runs per outing. In 10 contests, the Tigers have scored a total of 103 runs while allowing only 34.
They are champions of both events in which they have participated, including the Fall Kick Off on Aug. 9 (where they compiled a record of 4-1-0) and the Summer Sizzler Classic on Aug. 22 (going 4-0-1 against the competition). Both events were held at the Bank Plus Sportsplex at Ballard Park in Tupelo.
Eight of the 11 ranked teams in the 11 and under age division of Class AA are Mississippi squads. Two are from Georgia and one from Kentucky.
