The Charleston Dollar General store, closed since late July, is due to reopen soon, according to a Tuesday statement from Dollar General Corporation Public Relations.
The store is “temporarily closed to address store maintenance issues,” noted the Aug. 18 emailed reply to a Sun-Sentinel query.
The air conditioning system reportedly had failed.
Before the shutdown, employees had been observed using electric fans, and at one point the store's operating schedule was altered so the business would be closed to customers during the hottest part of the day. That was before the area was gripped by the worst of an extreme heat wave.
“As we wait to receive specific parts needed for repairs, we currently hope to re-open the store in the coming weeks," the Dollar General statement added.
"We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our Tallahatchie County customers, and we look forward to welcoming them back to our store soon," the statement concluded.
