In roster moves on Monday, the National Football League’s Chicago Bears announced the signing of Charleston native DeAntre “Tre” Prince, a 6-0, 185-pound defensive back.
He has been assigned jersey number 37, according to the Bears’ website.
Prince, 25, last played for the United Football League’s Louisville (Kentucky) Kings. In six games this spring, he recorded 11 solo tackles, two assists, one interception that he returned 54 yards and five pass breakups in helping the Kings to a 6-4 record and the playoffs.
A sports writer for the online Pro Football Newsroom wrote that Prince was playing at an “elite level” in the UFL, adding, “Not surprising to see him land a gig with the Bears.”
According to reports, Prince also had a workout with the Seattle Seahawks at the end of July.
In 2024, the former Charleston High School, Northeast Mississippi Community College and Ole Miss standout became the first Tallahatchian ever to be drafted into the NFL when he was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fifth round.
Prince appeared in 10 games for the Jaguars in 2024, notching eight tackles and one pass defensed. He was released at the end of training camp in 2025.
