Circuit clerk’s offices in Charleston and Sumner will open from 8-12 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, to accommodate voter registration, Tallahatchie County Circuit Clerk Daphane Neal said Monday.
Anyone in Tallahatchie County not registered to vote because their weekday schedule prevents them from stopping by the circuit clerk’s office during normal business hours will find this a golden opportunity to become a registered voter.
A person must be registered to vote by the Monday, Oct. 6, deadline in order to be eligible to participate in the upcoming Nov. 4 general election, which will include local races for school board as well as a special election in state Senate District 24, the seat previously occupied by Sen. David Jordan, who retired effective June 30.
The special election is necessary to determine who will fill the remainder of Jordan’s unexpired four-year term, which runs through the end of December 2027.
Six people have qualified for the Senate District 24 special election, including Curressia M. Brown, Jason Colquett, Everette Hill, Loretta McClee, Justin Pope and Georgio Proctor.
