Warm and pleasant greetings to all. We hope you are enjoying a good week and keeping safe.
It’s February. We have an extra day to enjoy this month. I didn’t realize it was Leap Year until I turned the calendar.
The snow, ice and very cold weather the week before kept things on low and slow. Even with the streak of very cold weather, the incoming week brought on much rain, saturating the yards and fields. The rural areas where there are under-graded gravel roads, like in our community, were in the worst condition.
We’re about halfway into winter, so it’s yet a few more weeks in the season. Let’s see what the groundhog forecast is on Friday. Enjoy the season; it is a beautiful season.
Even though February is the shortest month, there are lots of activities and events to celebrate. February is a time we see special offerings, discounts, promotions, decorations, giveaways, and let’s not forget the social media folio blooms because of the activities.
February is Black History Month, also known as African American Heritage Month. Black Heritage is observed by the U.S., Canada and, more recently, Ireland and the United Kingdom. (Wikipedia)
Its significance is to remember important people and events in the history of the African diaspora.
The National Black History theme focuses on “African Americans and the Arts.”
African American influence has been paramount in the fields of visual and performing arts, literature, fashion, folklore, language, film, music, architecture, culinary and other forms of culture expression.
It’s good to see this art being recognized more and more.
Friday, Feb. 2, is National Wear Red Day and American Heart Month. The first Friday in February, many people will wear red to show support for the leading cause of death in America. Many health organizations this month will focus on spreading information about the causes, prevention and treatments of heart diseases. The American Heart Association says heart disease causes 695,000 deaths every year in America.
I’m personally passionate about this cause. The maternal side of my family experienced this, including our mother who succumbed to heart disease. Let’s celebrate all the patients, survivors and caregivers of heart disease and strokes and remember those we have lost.
Perhaps treatments these patients went through, new treatments, have saved a life from what was learned. Some new advances in heart disease we hear about or know of from someone’s benefit are implantable pacemakers and heart valve replacements, cholesterol and blood pressure lowering medicines and artificial heart valve.
Enjoy life today. Be blessed.
