Warm and pleasant greetings to all. We hope you are enjoying a good week.
One more week of daylight saving time, so enjoy.
Our community, like a few other neighborhoods, is filled with dust and husk blowing, with the harvesting of soybeans and sweet potatoes and cotton in nearby fields. The huge equipment en route and in the fields is a big deal with right-of-way.
Be careful on the highway meeting or following the farm equipment because the operator’s mind has one objective. And the equipment is bigger than what you drive. It’s perfect weather for harvesting and everyone needs to be safe. Best wishes for a bountiful harvest. God bless every farmer and those who assist.
We certainly missed seeing my brothers from Gallatin, Tennessee, who visit us on their way to Valley State’s homecoming game. They did not come this year. Our friendly neighbor Ray made himself friendly and spoke to everybody he thought looked like they may have attended Valley during the times the Brinkley’s matriculated on campus. I got a friendly call from a schoolmate who remembered all four Brinkley’s. My last year at college was spent with the four of us on campus.
Another event recognizing October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month is on Saturday, Oct. 26. We salute the Tippo community and its volunteers who choose to celebrate in honor and memory of individuals and families who experience the facts of life dealing with cancer.
This is the third year for Easter Jones and others who join to embrace the efforts. For more information or to make a donation, contact Easter Jones, Tiny Boclair, Ira Bridges or Lillie Bradford. Opening ceremonies begin at 9 a.m. with the BCA two-mile walk starting at 10. You’ll see and know you are at the right place when you get to Tippo.
Thought I would share one of my recipes for pie pastry I made last week.
You may like this, too, if you will be preparing several pies. This recipe makes six pie crusts and freezes well. Pastries are good for desserts and pot pies.
PASTRY
4 cups plain flour
1 ½ teas. salt teas.
1 teas. baking powder
1 ½ cups shortening
½ cup cold water
1 egg
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon vinegar
Sift together flour, salt and baking powder. Cut in/ blend in shortening. In a separate bowl, mix together cold water, egg, sugar and vinegar. Add together dry and liquid ingredients. Shape into a large loaf and divide into six equal parts. Roll on a well floured surface.
Enjoy life today. Be blessed.
