The next two bands on our Gateway to the Delta Festival schedule were crowd favorites last year, so we decided to have them return. Their musical genres are very different, but they have one very important thing in common — they know how to put on a great show!
Next up on the docket is Muddy Alexander, who is an American singer and songwriter blazing from Taylor, Mississippi, with an amazing blend of blues, R&B and classic soul in his show. His high-energy, gritty guitar and vocal performance will catapult you out of your seat for more.
Muddy frequently performs at Ground Zero Blues Club and his new single, “She Got Me Like Mmm.” is starting a strong buzz with old and new blues music lovers. When you are in the mood for some good homestyle blues and smooth R&B sounds, you don’t want to miss a Muddy Alexander performance.
Performing after Muddy will be local hometown favorite S.L.A.S.H., who will help us transition from the afternoon into the evening. If you have not had a chance to hear this band, they are a great local band that plays all genres of music from rock to Southern country favorites.
Led by lead singer Joseph Lindley, Roger Albritton on bass, Kelvin Simmons on guitar and with Steve Simmons keeping the beat going on drums, S.L.A.S.H. always provides a great show. Not only do they perform at numerous weddings, receptions and local events, but in 2023 they performed at the 46th annual Lynyrd Skynyrd memorial event in the community of Gillsburg, in Amite County. They have provided musical entertainment for numerous Gateway to the Delta festivals and always keep the crowd singing along.
But, the music lineup is not the only great thing about Gateway this year. Family, friends and neighbors can all be found around the Court Square on this special day. Gateway pageants, Photography Contest and the Smoochin’ Scissors are just a few of the fun activities this year.
Don’t forget to reserve that spot for your reunion tent, purchase your Gateway T-shirt and poster, and pull out your comfy walking shoes for Oct. 12. We will see you (and all your friends) at Gateway 2024!
