God sure did bless us with a beautiful Saturday and Sunday this weekend! Sherry Joe’s had a “Meeting in the Parking Lot” and we had a couple of people there, Patricia Morris (P J’s Creations) and Sonia Hill, who set up their tables and sold some arts and crafts and hand-sewn aprons. Of course, Sherry Joe’s was open for business. We may not have made a fortune, but the company and conversation were a hoot!
I’ve had some of my readers ask why my article hasn’t been in the paper and I’m going to try to explain what has been going on in my life the past couple of months.
I contracted COVID and was sick for a couple of days, but when I recovered from that, I still just couldn’t get my thoughts and feelings under control.
I guess being in bed slowed me down enough so that everything that has happened in my life in the past couple of years finally caught up with me. I’m not very good at sharing my personal story, but I decided to try. Maybe it will help some of you that are going through the same thing.
I first decided that something was wrong when all I could do was sit around and cry. If you know me, you know that I am not a crier.
I wouldn’t dare let anyone see me hurt. I’ve always been one to say “I’m fine” even if my leg was hanging off! I couldn’t even tell you why I was crying, because I honestly didn’t know.
Another symptom that I started having was the feeling of butterflies in my stomach from the time I woke up until I went to sleep. I wanted to sleep all of the time, but when I would sleep, I would have these horrible nightmares. Y’all, being nauseous all of the time will make you want to pull your hair out. Every thought I had was always of, “Oh my goodness, what kind of bad am I going to have to face today!”
I sat around the house for about three weeks and would hardly step outside. The thought of having to have a conversation with anyone was overwhelming and I didn’t want to just start crying in front of everyone. They would think that I was crazy. I even began to think that maybe I was losing my mind.
I have always been the “strong one” that could handle anything. People have often told me that I was “so strong.” What they (nor I) knew was that it was a facade! I had swallowed my hurt for so long that it was coming out one way or another and with a vengeance.
I finally broke down and went and talked to a friend who told me that I needed to stop worrying about taking care of everyone else, and take care of Kim. I couldn’t even wrap my mind around that. I have always gotten my joy from helping others.
Well, I took her advice because I just couldn’t go on like I was. I loaded up in my car (I had to make myself) and headed to Region One Mental Health and they sat me down and let me cry to them and told me that I wasn’t going crazy, that I was suffering from severe depression and anxiety. I can’t say enough good things about the ladies at Region One. I have an appointment to talk to a psychiatrist and get me straightened out.
I decided to write about it in hopes that maybe someone reading this and suffering alone will have the strength to get help. Lord knows, I don’t like to air my laundry, but if it hits me like a rock, I know that there are others out there that are going through it, too.
Maybe the way people treat their mental health will get better. So, I will be keeping y’all updated on what’s going on as I go through the process of getting well.
Enough about that for today.
Easter is on its way, and to me it is a very special holiday.
God gave His Son as a sacrifice for all of us ole sinners so we would have a chance to be able to live with Him in Glory. I can’t imagine the pain that came with that decision. I have three children and I just don’t think that I could sacrifice one of mine.
Could you? Think about that this coming weekend as we celebrate the crucifixion and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, because He is coming back and I don’t think it will be long.
I love each and every one of y’all and pray that when our life on earth is over, we will all meet again one day on the streets of gold. Until then, remember that He’s coming back, so be ready!
