Sometimes, it’s so hard to stay positive in this negative world. I really hate to write when I am in this state of mind. I’m sure that everyone already has enough to worry about on their own without having someone else complain about their problems. It does do some good to vent sometimes, though. Apparently, one of my problems is not venting enough. I am like a tea kettle. The stress builds and builds until my whistle starts whistling!
Mother’s Day is right around the corner and the thought of it makes me cringe. It will be the second one without my mother. I don’t think that it will ever be the same. I understand more every day the loneliness a person feels as they get older. If you have elderly people in your family that you are able to go and visit, please do and just sit and talk with them. There will come a day when you will no longer have that opportunity.
I set out some tomato plants this past week at Daddy’s and I sure hope that they do well. I honestly hate store-bought tomatoes. Out of the 10 plants that were planted, I hope to get enough to can some for soups this winter. I’ve also been wanting some tomato gravy with homemade biscuits. There’s nothing like it. I planted the tomatoes in a spot where there was once a chicken coop, so hopefully the ground will be fertile.
Speaking of chickens, I need the rain to stop long enough for me to fix the chickens with a better coop. Something has been getting in the coop that they are in now and they need to be moved closer to the side of the yard that Daddy’s house is on.
Chickens will let you know when something is in their coop. I’ll never forget the night that a racoon got in the chicken coop. Those chickens started cackling at 3 a.m. and woke me up from a dead sleep. When I went and looked out the back door to see what all the fuss was about, I could have sworn that they were pointing at the racoon with their wings and clucking that “It was over there!” Hopefully, I’ll be able to get them moved this week. I’ve got quite attached to those stupid chickens. When I get close to the coop, they will start clucking and I’ll tell them to quit fussing and lay some eggs or they will be going to see Colonel Sanders!
Since I am in such a mood, I’m going to make this article short and sweet. Happy birthday to all that have celebrated one this week. Make sure you thank God for keeping you on the top side of the dirt.
Remember, the Lord is coming back, so be ready.
