This year in our Auxiliary, we have done a few things in different ways. At our regular meeting in April, we had two men, Keith Murphree and Larry Smith, employees of Entergy, meet with us and remind us of the importance of handling the electricity that we deal with in our homes or workplaces in a safe way.
We set up chairs on the outside of our building, and they went through a really good program of what to do and what not to do.
There were many things brought out, and they used real electricity to show us what will happen if we use it carelessly. I can tell you that it is amazing what electricity can do that helps us in the everyday tasks that we use it for. But it can be very dangerous if not handled correctly.
A personal note, I can remember when we did not have electricity and I remember when they came through our area installing it and the difference in our lives. It’s one of the best things we can have in our homes.
For the May meeting, we went back to our regular format for our meetings.
The May meeting was called to order by Wanda Ivy, our vice president. Our devotion was given by Alisha Pittman. Since we had just celebrated Mother’s Day, Alisha started by saying that in most cases, we try to be the kind of woman our mother gave us by her example. She used the scripture in Galatians 5, to show all the attributes we should live by. Actually, they are named in the word of God as the fruit of the Spirit — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. That actually covers it all in the way we should live, and what a world that would be if a lot of mothers used this as their guideline. I admit, it is not an easy task, but with the help of the Lord, it is possible.
Our fruit baskets went to Connie Rowe, Brenda Wilkerson and Lee Dale Sturgis. These three are all doing well now, and we were glad to hear that.
We also started the discussions for our birthday calendars for this year. The words I heard most were, “We just got through with last year’s.”
We closed the meeting with prayer since we did not have it along with our devotion.
