I hope the ones working outside have really enjoyed the cooler weather. I know our energy saver air conditioner has not cut on near as much this past week.
I’m getting ready to air my quilts and afghans. In other words, I’m getting ready to snuggle under the covers after this long, hot summer.
Daughter Donna Garripoli along with granddaughter Miranda and Summer Procella of Georgia visited us Friday afternoon.
Love and sympathy to the Mrs. Joellen M. Wortham family of Tillatoba. Mrs. Wortham, 69, passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, at her residence. She was born Jan. 6, 1955, in Joliet, Illinois, to Joseph Johnny and Margaret Clara Goodwin Heather. Memorial service plans are private. Survivors include her husband, Jesse Lee Wortham Jr. of Tillatoba; daughters, Renee Wortham of Tillatoba and Karen Harmon of Batesville; son, Jesse Lee Wortham III (Jennifer) of Tillatoba; brothers, Johnny and David Heather, both of Clayton, Illinois; and 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Tommy and Deborah McCool visited their daughter, Kimberly and Jason Beavers, Sunday afternoon. They were cooking for their daughter Hannah’s 18th birthday. They had a big fish fry with lots of extras. Deborah said she even managed to make her a birthday cake. Virginia and Sandy Beavers were there, and daughter Angela Dukes came down. Hannah's boyfriend and his mom and brother came, too. They all had a great time and ate too much, of course, Deborah said.
Happy 47th anniversary on the 11th to Tommy and Deborah McCool!
Martha Box said she is all tied up! “Will not try to tell it all but so busy,” she noted. “Reminds me of the day I was raking leaves and stirred up the yellow jackets. Yes, I was stripping off clothes as I ran around to the front door. There stood Mailbox (Honey) and three other truckers! Still breathless from that memory!”
Martha asked prayers for brother Jesse and family who lost their love, Jodi. A family memorial service will be held at Renae's on the 14th.
Prayers also for the healing of Carl Kendall, at home healing from an injured foot.
Martha had a lovely visit at Pine Grove Baptist Church Sunday with a “great message” from Bro. Green, a Presbyterian minister. “What a message of the real worship we all have for Jesus! Yes, in the beginning there was one church!” she said.
“Weeks just fly by. I don’t really have any news,” said Ginger Harrison, who noted that she did enjoy seeing her mama (Martha Box) at Pine Grove Sunday morning. Diane Hill made them a fabulous lunch as usual.
Diane Dukes went to the birthday party for her grandson, Jimmy Russell Dukes, on Sunday. All of the family was there at Enid at the park. I know the kids enjoyed it. Terri Dukes and Diane visited Terri’s friend, Lorrie McCollum, in the hospital later that day. They also went to visit granddaughter Haven Rose Dukes.
Anna and Joanna Pullen attended a birthday party over by Charleston at Vickie and Will Murphy’s home. They had a good time and Diane said she always enjoyed seeing their aunt Vickie and uncle Will Murphy.
Diane is all excited about her grandson, John Dukes, getting married to Darlene Burks at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 19 at Chickasaw Hill Lodge in Sardis. Congratulations, John and Darlene!

I pray you all have a wonderful day celebrating your birthday.
Recipe for this week: “Spanish Rice Surprise”
Prepare one box of Rice-A-Roni Spanish rice as directed on the box. In a large skillet, brown 1 pound of lean ground beef, chopped onions, and chopped red and green bell peppers. Add a sprinkle of shredded cheese, 1 can of Rotel, salt, pepper and cumin. Combine all together along with the prepared rice. Pour into a baking dish and top with additional shredded sharp cheddar cheese and bake at 350° for 25-30 minutes.
