JR Dukes, my neighbor, is ranked No. 8 in the Phoenix Bass Fishing League with three tournaments to go. JR, we are going to be pulling for you to have a great day on Grenada Lake Saturday. Pull that 8th place on up a notch or two! I know Greg Sullivan would’ve been tickled and proud that you are staying in the top 10. I can hear him now bragging on you.
David had to have the tires rotated on his truck and the oil changed, so we spent some time visiting our daughter and granddaughter, Donna Garripoli and Frankie Holliday, while the truck was being worked on. Frankie’s birthday is the 27th, so Donna and Frankie fixed a good lunch with a birthday cake and ice cream to top it off since Frankie, Brad and Bradley were going to be on the coast for her birthday weekend.
Tommy and Debbie McCool said they did nothing this week but yard work. Last week, Friday and Saturday, they went by Grenada and picked up Tommy’s sister, Alice Kellum, for a trip to Greenville. They stayed at a hotel and visited his and Alice’s sisters who live in Leland. Debbie said they had a good time and were supposed to stay until Sunday but decided to come home Saturday night.
Joyce Stevens enjoyed her day Sunday with her son, Billy Stephens, and his grandchild, Raylyne. Joyce’s daughter, Melanie Stevens, brought her grands to see her also, so she really enjoyed seeing all four of her greats.
Joyce said they are taking applications for apartments in Oakland at the Oakland Manor for the elderly, 62 and above, if anyone is interested.
Ronnie Wortham came from Texas and Joyce was happy to see and visit with him.
Martha Box, first cousin to the late Tommy Kendall, said Friday’s visitation for Tommy was like a special family reunion. And what a loving, descriptive, memorable eulogy his daughter-in-law, Wendy Kendall, gave at the funeral Saturday. She said a great descriptive message was given at the funeral by Bro. Tommy Darby. This family is his family also and he brought out messages of parents, grands, aunts and uncles, Martha said.
Belated happy birthday to Bobby Epps on March 23. Bobby, I had strict orders from your friend, Liz McKinney, to wish you a happy birthday and I forgot. I found a piece of paper reminding me, so maybe she won’t be too mad at me. I hope you had a good day!
Happy birthday to Dana Jackson on the 2nd; to Brent McMillian and Brenna Nobles on the 4th; to Bubba Williams and Jake Harrison on the 5th; to Lil John Dukes on the 6th; and to Vickie Parker James on the 7th. I hope you all have a great day of celebrating.
Happy fifth anniversary to Freddie Wayne and JoJo McClanahan, who celebrated Monday, March 28. May you two have many more happy years together.
“It has been a fabulous birthday,” said Ginger Box Harrison! “Everyone has celebrated me all weekend. Sunday was full of cake and love. Thanks to Diane Nail Hill for the Butterfinger cake and thanks to Candy Box for the red velvet cake. I was happy to see all the family at momas. My sweet niece, Lilly Whitaker, came to give me a birthday hug. Monday, Phil and I went to be with Josh at MSU Preview Day.”
There was a baby shower given for Beth Tillman DeLoach in the fellowship hall of Tillatoba Baptist Church Sunday afternoon. It was reported that around 30 to 40 people were there. I know Beth received a lot of useful things for baby Hallie Bren.
My cousin from Germany, Curtis Tillman, spent Saturday afternoon with us. We enjoyed our visit so much. I only get to see Curt once a year, if I’m lucky. His mother, Patsie Tillman, lives in Coffeeville and Curt tries to make the trip once or twice a year to see her. He has been here almost a month but will have to leave Tuesday flying back to Germany.
Otey Dahl was taken by ambulance to Grenada hospital Sunday night and then on to Jackson by helicopter. They put in a defibrillator after he got there. Please keep Otey in your prayers.
I talked by phone with Jessie Williams Monday morning and the water that flooded her living room from the busted hot water heater is almost repaired. All she needs now is to have her padding put back down.

Thought for the day: A pat on the back develops character if administered young enough and often enough and low enough!
