The Cook family reunion was Saturday, Nov. 12, in the lovely home of Margaret Jean Ross. John and Sherry Cook usually host this event, but they had COVID. Margaret Jean said she counted 40-plus people there. The food was great, but the love and happiness of being with family was greater.
Bobby and Sheridan Cook came from Georgia with their son and grandson. Billy Cook’s family came from Greenwood. Billy is bedridden and he was certainly missed. The Gaithers were there. Janet Ross Caulder, Linda Ross Aldy, Rich and Jennifer Ross, Richard and Meagan Ross, David and Daisy Jane Burlison and three of their grands, Dillon and Mendy Brewer and their two children, Emilie and Kyle, Jerry Lee Walton, Inge Cook, and several I am sure I missed. Daisy Isbell reported a great time was had by all.
Bubba and JR Dukes had the flu last week. I hope they are feeling much better this week! Seems like every time I turn around, someone I know has COVID or the flu. Sounds like it’s going to be a bad winter with a lot of sickness.
Mike and Rhonda Hailey of Houston visited Festus, Ruth Jane and Amanda Hailey last Thursday afternoon.
Phillip and Susan Bell of Caledonia visited with your writer and David Saturday afternoon. I ended up with a pretty Christmas ball wreath for my door in exchange for a McCarty blue bird. It’s a joke when Susan comes to see me and I have purchased something new or old that she likes. She will say, “Put my name on that!”
Martha Box was worn out and the bad sinus infection at the time of the flukamongavitus whooped her good, she says. Martha is now working on matching her “want to” with her “yes I can.” I’m glad you are feeling so much better, my friend.
Debbie McCool said she had a great Saturday. She went to Tupelo with her daughter, Angela Dukes, and all three of her granddaughters, Allison Dukes and Caitlyn and Hannah Beavers. They went to the Tupelo Marketplace, Tupelo Mall and finished with Hobby Lobby. Debbie said it was great spending all day with them. Angela and Debbie wore those three girls out! They just couldn’t hold up like those old ladies.
Adam and Jacque Dickey Chambers went out to Waco, Texas, Friday to visit her dad, Bobby Dickey, who is originally from Charleston. They went to McGregor, Texas, Friday night to the Coffee Shop Cafe and had supper. They went to 3 Texans Winery, which is owned by three Texas women, a mother and daughters. Very beautiful place. Jacque said they bought homemade peach pepper jelly and peanut brittle. They stopped by Buc-ee’s in Temple, Texas, which is like a Walmart on steroids. Adam got candy cashews. Jacque’s dad had to have their famous kolache and fudge. They have over 20 different fudges. Jacque got a new piece of pottery for her charcuterie trays that she loves to make. And, of course, she got a kolache, too. They are enjoying their trip, especially being with her daddy.
Happy birthday to Marie Rowland and Samantha Irwin Dees, who share a birthday on the 14th; Charlie Brook Bowman, who celebrates the 15th; my handsome brother-in- love, Tommy Hudson, and Diane Kerr Horne, who share a birthday the 17th; Lil Caleb Brewer and Big Ernie Holliday, who share a birthday on the 20th; to my sweet granddaughter, Miranda Procella, and Cliff McCain, who celebrate the 21st; and Ezra Walton Walton, who celebrates the 23rd.
Happy fifth anniversary to Jason and Wendy Pettit on the 18th. Jason, the gift for that anniversary is wood! That don’t mean to go out and chop her a bunch of firewood even though that may be a good idea since it’s so cold!
Shelia Jackson’s sister, Liz Thurman, Steve Thurman and family of Strawberry Plains, Tennessee; Benji Thurman and Anissa Collier from Pigeon Forge, Tennessee; Roger and Rose Thurman and Ben Floyd of Huntsville, Alabama; and Meredith and Tony Smith of Birmingham, Alabama, attended the memorial service for Noah B. Thurman, Saturday, Nov. 12. Shelia wants to thank everyone that helped. They returned home Saturday and Sunday. Noah was Liz’s husband.
Thought for the day: If you don’t want the fruits of sin, stay out of the devil’s orchard.
