Happy New Year! I hope you all have the traditional meal and plenty of it! I pray the new year, 2023, will treat you better than 2022.
Last Thursday evening just before dark, David looked out and it was snowing like crazy and the wind was blowing hard. It looked like a blizzard. I finished cooking supper and just when I was putting the leftovers up, the lights blinked four or five times and out they went!
This has been some crazy weather lately. While in Oxford last Tuesday for a doctors’ visit, I saw several wearing shorts. That’s how quick the weather can change, so always be prepared!
Carolers from the Tillatoba Baptist Church came Wednesday night and they sounded beautiful. Some of the little ones I had not seen since COVID! Thanks, everyone!
Happy 38th anniversary to me and David on the 11th. The modern gift given on the 38th anniversary is beryl and tourmaline. A semi-precious stone, the tourmaline comes in a wide range of colors. Now I was reading that line that said beryl and tourmaline kinda fast and thought it said trampoline. I said to myself, if that man gets me a trampoline, there won’t be a 39th anniversary. I tried jumping on one of those things many, many anniversaries ago and it just didn’t work! My feet were over my head before my head decided where they were supposed to be!
Baileigh Tillman’s father fell and hit his head. He was in the hospital in New Orleans. Drew and Baileigh made a trip down there to check on him. That was the night the weather was so bad. They made a safe trip and prayers were answered.
Belated happy birthday to Tamitha Jackson on Dec. 30. Starting off our January birthdays, Jeff Tillman, Carolyn Pyron and Margaret Crenshaw Wilbourn celebrate on the 2nd; Lisa Jones the 6th; Jessie Tillman the 8th; Jolacy Irwin and Hazel Harris the 9th; and sweet lil JoAnna Pullen and Erik Bailey celebrate the 11th. I pray you all have a great birthday!
Happy anniversary to Sheila and Bubba Williams on the 11th.
Sam and Anna Pullen and daughter, Joanna, along with Nancy Chambers went to Gatlinburg last week and enjoyed the Christmas lights. It was Sam and Anna’s 7th anniversary. They left last Wednesday and came back Sunday.
When the last storm came through, lightning hit Diane Dukes’ refrigerator. She was excited that they were delivering her a new one Friday, but that didn’t happen. Maybe they will deliver it before the new year.
Martha Box said she found a sun spot in her house. Only 52 degrees inside and 16 outside, but the snow on the roof is melting. She has stayed warm and snug both at home and while staying with her sister, Joyce Stevens, at Oakland. She had turned the oven on to bake for their Christmas and the power went off. Now all we need is some electricity!
Faye Hartley was at the Christmas party for GranCare residents and gave out gifts. One of the residents received a hog head and was tickled to death. He said his director, talking about Faye, knew just what he wanted! Faye, you amaze me with all you do!
Diane Dukes had a house full Christmas Eve night visiting, eating and opening gifts. All the little ones, especially, had a good time opening their gifts! Then they were ready to go home and wait on Santa.
Waylon, Holly and Haven Rose Dukes and Junior Dukes visited their daddy, Dale and Shannon Dukes, on Christmas Day.
David and I, along with son Tim Sullivan motored to Grenada and ate Christmas dinner in the lovely decorated home of our daughter, Donna Garripoli. Those joining us were Brad, Francesca and Bradley Holliday and Maranda and Summer Procella. While there, David, Bradley and I rode up the hill from Donna’s and visited with sister Ann and Tommy Hudson. On our way out of Grenada, we stopped and visited another daughter, Brandy Rounsaville. When we returned home, our grandson, Junior Dukes, came bringing us a beautiful decorative metal door hanger with our last name on it. Made my Christmas complete.
Sadie Harper did have her hip surgery and did very well. She is home recuperating.
Odie Dahl is a little better but not out of the woods yet. Please keep them in your prayers.
Recipe for the week: Easy Deer
1 cup raw rice
1 can French onion soup
1 can beef consommé soup
1 pound tenderloin, sliced
Pour rice in buttered baking dish. Add soup and 1/2 can water. Place sliced tenderloin on top. Cover and bake for 45 minutes or an hour, if needed, at 350 degrees. You can also use pork chops or chicken.
Thought for the day: If a care is too small to be turned into a prayer, it is too small to be made into a burden.
