I am so ready to decorate for fall, which is not too far off from now. Saturday, Sept. 23, is the first day of fall. I always think of my step-granddaughter, Carmella. She dearly loves fall and goes all out, decorating, baking, buying tons of orange candy corn, and she had her wedding in the fall so she could use fall decorations. It was so pretty.
Love and sympathy to the Otey Dahl family. Otey passed away Thursday after being sick for some time.
Deborah McCool’s brother, Ronnie Bell, had to go home Wednesday afternoon but is planning on coming back before end of month to stay a bit longer. I know his daddy, Ray Bell, is happy to spend time with him.
Your writer and David visited in the home of Patsie Tillman and Nick and Cheyenne Fox of Coffeeville. Nick was at work, but we did get to visit with Patsie and Cheyenne and the three precious children, Amelieah Paige, Austen and Adeline.
Darlene Moorman is one proud grandmother. Both of her great-grands have reached 1 year old in September and both are walking and are saying, “Hi Mawmaw!” “It is so sweet how they were taught to say that to me,” beamed Darlene.
Martha Box has had a lot of sadness losing special cousins, but some joy in sharing with all friends and family. She said Jerry Gail Jones is shouting “Glory!” all over Heaven and we will forever miss her. Prayers for her family. What a wonderful service and singing, with Bro. Tommy being her pastor for about 40 years, and the singers always singing with her.
Martha says she’s been feeling a bit wore out these past few weeks. She ended up at the ER getting IV fluids for dehydration. Says she will now take better care of herself. “You know how us nurses are!” she said.
Martha enjoyed church Sunday with great encouraging words from Mr. Busby regarding Gideons Bible sharing across the world. Martha said she received a couple at different times that she kept in her lab coat and shared scripture with many patients throughout many years. I know you were one sweet, caring nurse, Martha!
I talked to Peggy Bailey Monday morning and she said that she had been in the hospital over the weekend. Peggy went Friday and they discharged her Sunday. She said she had gotten sick from a hamburger that she had eaten. After she got to the hospital, they found a few other things wrong. I told her that it was probably good she got sick from the hamburger. For one thing, her blood was too low.
Sheryn Goode went to Memphis Wednesday to visit her daughter, Dana Huffman. Then, Thursday morning at 7:30, Sheryn had laser surgery on the lens in her right eye. Sheryn said she must have been walking around in the dark because everything is so bright and clear now. She got to spend time with her two grandsons, Fisher and Devon Huffman, and she got to eat at her all-time favorite place, Pete and Sam’s. Sheryn said that’s one place she misses living down here, but she enjoyed being back in her old hometown for a few days.
Intended for last week’s news: Sheryn Goode’s daughter, Dana Huffman, come down Saturday. They had a very good day together. They started by going to the cemetery to put out fall flowers. Then they went to Grenada and she went in Spains. Sheryn said no way was she going in on the 2nd of the month. They went to First Impressions on the square, which they didn’t even know was there but found it a nice place to shop. Afterward, they went to the world famous Tillatoba truck stop to eat.
David Deck went to the ballpark at Papermill Road Saturday to watch his grandsons, Brewer Deck of Cleveland and Bradley Holliday, play ball. It was a fun time for the boys to see each other and play on opposite teams.

Breanna Nobles is the proud mother of lil Harper Rhyleigh, who was born Sept. 7 and weighed 2 pounds, 1 ounce. Baby and mother are doing fine as of this writing.
Recipe for the week: “Pumpkin Corn Bread”
3/4 cup of cornmeal
3/4 cup of sugar
One cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
I/8 teaspoon ginger
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon salt
One cup of pumpkin cooked or one can
One egg
1/2 cup of milk
Mix all ingredients and bake in loaf pan at 3:50° for 45 minutes. I haven’t tried this myself, but I’m going to!
